Bridge Edit

Here's a little edit I did in Adobe Bridge. I darkened the sky and brought out some of the colors in the sky. I'm just beginning at this type of editing so I'm not very good at all at it, if you can't already tell. I really enjoy this type of editing and am looking forward to getting a little bit better at it. I cropped the image a little bit too. I think the house really pops out just a little bit more now which is what I was going for. It turned out decent in my book.

Panoramic

Here's a panoramic shot that I recently took. Finding inspiration for this was really tough for me to do. I had never done a panoramic before and had no idea what to expect but I think it turned out well for a first time. The first picture is the panoramic and the other four are the pictures that I combined. As you can see I took out the car and the tall elevator shaft. When I merged the pictures the shaft didn't fit right at all so I just put in more sky. As for the car, it was just annoying and in the way. I edited the image in Bridge.

Edits

1) Tucker 11/ 22/11 11:11 pm Park City Utah 1/125 f/8.0
2) Sundance 11/22/11 10:21pm Park City Utah 1/320 f/8.0

In these pictures the top one is the edited image. What I did was add an adjustment layer and fixed the levels of the picture. Then I took the paintbrush tool and lowered the opacity to bring out certain parts of the images. For example, the image Tucker, I felt the mountains were a little washed out in the image. So what I did was darken the whole image with an adjustment layer then took the paintbrush tool and revealed more of Tucker since I felt like he was properly exposed in the original image.
I felt the images turned out great and really helped to make the subject pop out just a little bit more and for the background to be more vibrant and lucious to look at.

Flora and Fauna

4) Water fall - Salt Lake City Utah 11/22/111:31pm 1/4000 f/2.8

For this assignment we were to photograph Flora and Fauna. Nice and vibrant flora was very difficult to find in the middle of winter. However, with an open eye and ambition I was able to make things work. This weekend I went down to Utah so I thought it would be a great opportunity to snag some pictures. All of the flora pictures are from around the Gateway mall. I was able to find some nice scenery like the waterfall.
For the fauna part of this project I photographed some bull horns. My hardest thing with that was finding an interesting composition to work with. After trying many different things, this is what I decided to go with. I just photographed one side of them using the rule of thirds and put the tip of the horn out of focus.
For all these pictures I did some simple editing. I just raised the vibrance and saturation to make the pictures pop just a little more. The picture of the flower I darken some so the purple would pop out a little more from the background.

Blend

Here's a blend that I did. I simply blended two pictures and put some text on top. It shows my emotion towards music and how it serves as an escape for me in my life. I did some minor color correcting to the pictures and sharpened them up just a tad. I used tutorial 17 and 27 from the book.

5. Snow Curb 1/15/11 10:23 am Rexburg, ID f/8.0 1/60 Manual Mode

For this color study I decided to go with the color yellow. I had originally decided on blue but I felt more inspired by yellow once I got out and about. The yellow, in some pictures, symbolizes some cool things. I enjoyed how it was just hiding underneath the winter and snow waiting to come back out into the world. Also, in some instances the yellow seems rustic and beaten.
I think these pictures portray life in Rexburg right now. It desperately want to come out but it is hidden beneath the depths of winter time.

Cut-Outs

 1) John: 1/8/11 2:54pm Rexburg, ID f/2.0 1/250 Canon 60D 50mm 1.8
 2) The Mic:1/7/11 11:57pm Rexburg, ID f/1.8 1/100 Canon 60D 50mm 1.8

Here's a few select pictures that I cutout in Photoshop. I used the quick selection tool to single out the object. After I got a rough selection I used the refine edge tool the clean up the image a tad so it wouldn't be so rough.
As far as corrections go, I just did some simple color correcting and increased some saturation and contrast. I attempted a little drop shadow on the two objects but it honestly looked a little odd and didn't quite work which is why I didn't use one.

Winter leave

Week 1:

6) Tree Person 1/8/11 3:08pm Rexburg, ID at S. 1st E. f/1.8 1/500 Canon 60D 50mm 1.8

For this series of pictures I was able to get my hands on the new Canon 60D. I was just getting random shots of things to test out the cameras capabilities. I took a nice little stroll around the BYU-Idaho campus and found some really interesting things to capture. The snow really helped to capture a mood in these pictures. The mood to me is wanting to escape the winter. Maybe that's just what I want and wish.
Overall I was very impressed with the Canon 60D. It has great capabilities and the lens I used with it, 50mm 1.8, performed very well.
The picture titled "guitar man" was shot on a different day and was in a low light setting. I wanted to go with something interesting on this shot. I decided that I didn't want to bring either one of his hands in focus but that I wanted to just bring the fret board in. I think it was able to catch an entirely different aspect.
